Cambria CD Release Event Wrap-up
NYC Sony Street and Lifestyle Marketing Rep. Sarah Salm

The New York City Coheed and Cambria CD release party took place on Sunday, September 18th at Scenic in the upstairs space. Scenic is located at 25 Avenue B between 2nd and 3rd Streets. It began at 7pm and lasted until 10pm. Scenic’s happy hour took place from 7-8pm. Capacity is about 100 in this space. I had also obtained sponsorship from the clothing line, Mother May I. Cofounder of the clothing line, Kal Michael was very generous and gave me a number of shirts, tank tops, stickers and pins to give away as well as a poster to display at the event. Omri Shellaf DJ-ed the party from 8:30-10:30 following the albums rotation. I also played the Coheed and Cambria LIVE at Starland Ballroom DVD on the television over the bar during the party.
I set up the party through Robert Johnson, one of the founders and staff members of the establishment. I worked with the house manager, Scott Long that night in regards to set-up and other technicalities. He was very helpful and was crucial in enabling things to flow smoothly.
The kids in attendance were all very enthusiastic about the band and were thrilled to receive the lithographs, t-shirts and other various prizes. The Mother May I apparel was also a big hit. There were a good number of acquaintances of the band as well as super fans in attendance. Among them was the founder of a fan site dedicated to Coheed and everything related. She received one of the very limited edition poster sets. These were truly the hot item at the party and many kids were disappointed to have not received this contended collection. A lot of the kids were full of Coheed facts and felt compelled to speak at length about the band and their music. It was really great to have so many intense Coheed fans actually there to enjoy the party and really appreciate the prizes and the music. There were about 30-50 kids there during the height of the evening.
Promotions for this event included postings on my page (www.myspace.com/hotnites) at myspace.com as well as the bands site, Krock and Cornerstone Promotions. I used the custom made flier designed by Dave Wilson for the events. I promoted at several shows and included all pertinent info on the flier which I double sided with the New Jersey in-store flier. I hung many Coheed posters throughout the club space and put out stickers and postcards for the sponsor and the band as well as fliers for Coheed’s in-store events.
All in all the night was a decent success. I think everyone in attendance was pleased. Thanks to my sponsor and Omri Shellaf for their added support. I’m glad I could do something for this exceptional band. I had spoken with them at their show the previous night and their bass player, Michael Todd had expressed his interest in coming and thanked me for my work. I was more than glad to do it. I look forward to my continued involvement in helping get the good word about these guys. They deserve it.
