New York City Sony Metal Party Wrap-up
NY Sony Street and Lifestyle Marketing Rep. Sarah Salm

The New York Sony Metal party took place on March 31st @ Bar 13 on the third floor. Bar 13 is located at 13Th St. at University Place. I set up the party in conjunction with an existing weekly party called The Beast, through the notorious SHOUT DJ’s, Steve and Pedro. Formerly located at Manahata’s, this party was the first at their new location.
The party started at 10pm. Open bar from 10 to 11pm was set up by Steve and Pedro and featured all the flavors of Stoli vodka. Myself, Omri and the college reps, Abe and Sarah arrived at 9pm to set up for the event. We put up posters all over the room and in the stairway up to the party and the rooftop area. We put out stickers for all the bands featured which included Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, System of a Down, Mudvayne and Life of Agony. In addition, we placed pins around for the band Fullscale. Samplers for Mudvayne and Priest singles were laid out. Fullscale mini cd’s were put out.
I had also set up a special sponsor, the clothing line Mother May I (mothermayiclothing.com) who sent us several boy and girl t-shirts, patches, stickers and truckers hats to giveaway at the event. They also sent us some posters, which we put up along with the bands at the party, and some postcards that we put out around the club. Their info and emblem were also included in our flier design and online promotions fro the party.
Our flier was designed by Omri and featured artwork for our artists, The Beast party and Mother May I Clothing. These were used to promote at shows during the week prior to the party. I also promoted the party on several local events sites and on Myspace.com. I did a bulletin posting, a blog posting and I sent out a special Myspace invite to a large part of my friends on Myspace. I also sent out an email to my contact list about the event. Sites promoted on included Daily Candy, Gawker, and Flavor Pill. The other reps did their promotions as well. The Beast did two to three email blasts to their contact list letting them know about the special night and Mother May I featured it in their newsletter email blast and on their website and Myspace. Both the Beast and Mother May I did Myspace invites.
People began to arrive at out party around 9:50 and by 10:15 the room was filing up. The turnout was very good. We were very pleased. There were about 150 or so in attendance. There was a really good reaction to the Ozzy. I brought music for all of the bands for the DJ’s to spin during the event and I also brought Mudvayne DVD’s. Perdo had an Ozzy DVD so he set up a projector and played it on one of the walls at the event. Several people came up to me and asked if I had the System Album yet with the hopes of getting their hands on it in advance. I said we only had one or two tracks, which they’d probably, heard or would hear. There was also a discussion of Mudvayne’s appearance at CBGB’s and the upcoming show at Hammerstein. People were talking about Life of Agony and trying to recall the members’ names and whatnot. It was really nice to hear people talking about almost all the bands we featured. Several people who had gone to mothermayiclothing.com and were hoping to get their hands on the giveaways also approached me. People had checked out the site after seeing the web address in the invites and were really digging the designs they’d seen. Hopefully this will help start a buzz for this company and increase their web traffic. I couldn’t be more pleased to have such a quality sponsor. The CJ, Steve was rocking one of their trucker hats for part of the night.
Shortly after the open bar ended we proceeded to toss out the giveaways to the crowd. At a party like this, we’ve found that this works much better than a ballot box. Sony giveaways included guys and girls Mudvayne shirts and beanies, two sets of the Mudvayne catalogue of cd’s, Fullscale t-shirts and cd’s, Revolver magazines featuring our artists, autographed Life of Agony and Mudvayne posers, Judas Priest full lengths and Mudvayne DVD’s. The Mother May I giveaways were very well received. One girl came up to me and begged for one of the girl’s shirts with the sacred heart and ribcage on them.
People hung around briefly after the giveaways but things thinned out after that for the most part. Everyone seemed to have a really good time. I even had people from New Jersey come out for this event. I think it exposed the Beast party to a new crowd that didn’t know about it otherwise and it defiantly helped et the work out about our artists’ upcoming releases; It got people talking about upcoming shows as well. I look forward to working with these promoters again and I thank the other reps for making this a quality event for everyone.
